About the Rochester Art Club

The Rochester Art Club, founded in 1877, is one of the oldest continuously active art groups in the United States. The organization's purpose is to advance the artistic growth of its professional membership and to contribute wherever possible to the cultural enrichment of the community. Membership in the Rochester Art Club, currently numbering about 170, is achieved through a juried selection process.

Members Exhibitions

At least two exhibits of members' works are held yearly, promoting an interest in such media as oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, original hand-pulled prints, drawing and sculpture. The Club offers its members a variety of programs which are often open to the public. These programs aim to explore and to develop awareness of accepted techniques and new ideas.

Community Outreach

Community outreach efforts to encourage growth and excellence in art are an important part of this club. Each year youth scholarships are awarded. The Rochester Art Club sponsors artist's awards in the Scholastic Art Show and the Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition.

Events & Activities

The Club offers to the public and its members presentations such as lectures, demonstrations and slide shows given by well-known artists, gallery owners and historians.

Other activities scheduled for members include workshops taught by nationally acclaimed artists, on-location paint-outs, visits to galleries and artists' studios, sharing and critique sessions, and national art show slide reviews.

Social events include a December holiday dinner party with a small art gift exchange and a spring paint-out picnic.
